How to disable Pop-Up Blockers on Most Operating Systems and Browsers

In this post we will cover the most common ways to disable Pop-Ups on most Devices and Internet Browsers. The main context for this informational guide is with regards to insurance company websites. Many insurance company websites require the use of cookes, that your pop-up blockers be turned off, and that you use specific internet browsers.  This guide will help you turn off your pop-up blockers to allow you continue whatever task you are doing on those websites.  There are a few terms you will need to familiarize yourself with before going through this guide:

Both of these are classified as graphical browsers; they display both graphics and text.Think of an Internet Browser as the frame surrounding the entire internet web page you may be looking it. It is in most cases a grey border surrounding the entire webpage and has tabs, buttons, bookmarks, and other things you can use to interact with whatever website you are looking at. Often times you will find buttons that open menus that have options to Print, Open, Save, Settings, and Exit the application that has the Internet Webpage Open.

There are a few pieces of information you will need to gather prior to getting started:

  1. First determine what the Operating System of the device you are currently using. This can be determined sometimes just by the type of device.
    • Apple Devices: iPads, iPhones, MacBooks, and Macintosh devices have a pre-installed Internet Browser named Safari.
    • Most computers and laptops that are not made by Apple come pre-installed with some version of Microsoft Windows Operating System.
    • All Android Phones come with a version of the Operating System named Android.
    • All Windows Phones come pre-installed with a version of the Windows Operating System
    • All Chromebooks come with a version of the Operating System named Chrome OS which stand for Chrome Operating System.
  2. Second determine what Internet Browser you are using. This can easily be determined by the Icon you click on when accessing the internet.

Block or allow pop-ups in Chrome

By default, Google Chrome blocks pop-ups from automatically showing up on your screen. When a pop-up is blocked, the address bar will be marked Pop-ups blocked Pop-ups blocked. You can also decide to allow pop-ups.

Turn pop-ups on or off

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  5. Under “Privacy,” click Content settings.
  6. Under “Pop-ups,” select an option:
    • Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)
    • Allow all sites to show pop-ups

Block or allow pop-ups for a specific site

Not all pop-ups are ads or spam. Some legitimate websites display web content in pop-up windows.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Find a page that has pop-ups blocked for you.
  3. In the address bar, click Pop-ups blocked Pop-ups blocked.
  4. Click the link for the pop-up window you’d like to see.
  5. To always see pop-ups for the site, select Always show pop-ups from [site] and then Done.

  2. At the top right, click More More.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  5. Under “Privacy,” click Content settings.
  6. Under “Pop-ups,” click Manage exceptions.
  7. If you see the site listed, point to the site. To the right, click Delete .
  8. At the bottom, click Done.

If the site isn’t listed, you can enter the site’s web address at the bottom of the list. To capture all pop-ups across the site, use the pattern [*.]example.com. Select Block for the behavior.

If a Web page tries to send you a pop-up when your blocker is turned on, an information bar will appear at the top of your browser window.

Clicking the Options button within the information bar will allow you to:

  • Allow pop-ups from this site
  • Edit your pop-up blocker options
  • Never show an information bar when pop-ups are blocked
  • Display the blocked pop-up window

  • 1. Open Firefox.
  • 2. Click the Firefox menu in the upper right.

When your blocker is turned on, there is no obvious alert that a pop-up has been blocked. So you’ll want to go into Safari’s settings to turn off the blocker.
