Medicare Annual Disenrollment Period

Author: Chris Hagerstrom

If you have any clients who are unhappy with their Medicare Advantage plans, there is still an opportunity for them to change how they receive their Medicare benefits, using the Annual Disenrollment Period (ADP). This Special Election Period (SEP) allows individuals on a Medicare Advantage plan to change back to Original Medicare and enroll in a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP).

This SEP started January 1st and will end on February 14th.  If your client needs a PDP plan, you can simply submit the PDP application using the SEP for the ADP, which will bump your client out of the MA plan and return him/her to Original Medicare.  This SEP allows for two different effective dates on the PDP plan;  February 1st if the app is taken in January, or March 1st if the app is taken in February.

If your client does not want or need a PDP plan, the client can simply contact his/her MA plan’s Customer Service department and request disenrollment using the ADP.

If you have any questions about the ADP, or any other Special Election Period opportunities, please call me at 1-800-203-0433, or fill out the form below.
