ACA Market Opportunity in Colorado

Author: Chris Hagerstrom

The Affordable Care Act has greatly increased the pace at which the uninsured rate is falling for Hispanic children. More and more Hispanic children in Colorado have health insurance, but they are not progressing as fast as their peers*.

The number of Hispanic kids without coverage dropped from more than 50,000 in 2013 to nearly 37,000 in 2014*. The number of uninsured children is still high, at nearly 10% compared to 6%* with all other children.  Nearly 93% of Hispanic children living in Colorado have legal status and two out of three* are eligible for free or low-cost health insurance.

The key to getting more children insured is spreading the word before open enrollment closes at the end of January. With less than two weeks for people/families to enroll in healthcare.gov and state marketplaces, there’s a narrow window of opportunity to help people get the coverage they need.
