2017 CMS FWA and General Compliance Training

Author: Chris Hagerstrom

In February of 2016, CMS released a few changes to the First Tier, Downstream, and Related Entities (FDR) requirements. CMS now requires sponsors to complete two online certifications, one being a Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) training and the other a General Compliance Training. This training must be completed within 90 days of hire and annual thereafter.

In order to participate in the 2017 Medicare Advantage or Prescription Drug Plans sales agents, and their downlines, must complete the required CMS training in addition to the company specific certifications.

With certain Insurance Carriers you must complete the AHIP test in order to represent their products. Completing all the AHIP modules will cover all the necessary requirements for the CMS FWA and General Compliance Training. If the carrier certifications do not require the AHIP, agents will have to complete this separately.

The required CMS training is free of cost to complete through the CMS MLN website. JSA has also made a step by step guide on CMS MLN training which you can find here.

If you have any questions on the process or the required training, please reach out to our marketing team at 1-800-203-0433.
